Superintendent's Message

Superintendent's Message

Message from the RCCS Executive Director / Superintendent:

Dr Ledford

Welcome Back to a brand-new school year! We are so excited to have our scholars return to in-person learning on Tuesday, August 31st and are looking forward to a productive and fun-filled school year!

After what will forever be known as an unprecedented school year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I am proud to say that although it was no easy task, the RCCS community came together as a TEAM and managed to successfully provide our scholars with a safe, nurturing learning environment that was conducive to learning, even when it had to be remote from home.

Our scholars, teachers, support staff, administrators, and parents worked hard and, most importantly, worked together to learn new skills, new technology, and a new way to be “in school”. Parents, you learned a lot about your children, as well as how hard teachers work to ensure their academic success because you had to become their teachers at home! We could not have had the success we had with your children this year without your partnership. We are grateful to have such awesome parent support and the expressions of gratitude from you, our wonderful RCCS parents, is genuinely appreciated.

We ended the school year on such a high note, with our school reopening for “in person” learning the week of April 12th! Although, we reopened using a hybrid school model, we were thrilled to have small groups of scholars come together for the first time for our annual Spring Music Concert the week of May 3rd which was also Teachers & Staff Appreciation Week! We were also able to safely host “in person” outdoor events such as Field Day 2021, Kindergarten Moving Up Ceremony, Grade 4 Celebration of Excellence, Parent Appreciation Brunch, and our Gift Bag / Yearbook Distribution Day which took place on the last day of school, and this made the final marking period of this school year even more special!

The “icing on the cake” was the Chalkbeat news article about our amazing school and how we worked together to overcome the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, which was published on our last day of school! The Chalkbeat News article was also featured in The Star Ledger newspaper and ran as a front-page news story across the state! Stay tuned for the PBS Visionaries documentary which will feature our school this Fall!

We look forward to this being an even better school year with all that we have planned for your children and you as well! Please make sure to review the “Welcome Back Letter” from my office and the RCCS Safe Return Plan available on this school website for details about our Covid-19 safety protocols as well as new school procedures for arrival and dismissal. School is in-person this Fall without the option for remote learning per the Governor’s Executive Order.

Yours in Learning,

Dr. Ledford
